Late January and throughout February always seem to be the most active for ice fishing contests in Minnesota. Whether it’s a small local lake or one of the larger contests they are a blast to be a part of.
Most tournaments donate the money to some type of charity or local service like a Fire Department. This is a great way to give back to the community and have an excuse to go fishing plus you may even win a prize.
Door prizes, where you don’t need to catch anything to win, will typically range from a $5 prize up to $50 depending on the size of the contest. Big fish prizes could win you a brand new Truck, ATV, Snowmobile, Ice Castle Fish house among other things.
One way to find out where these contests are held is through the MN DNR website, here is a link to their PDF with the full list.
